Soap Rink

I'm not sure why we did it. Maybe we were just looking to have a little fun. I don't think we realized just how much damage a soap rink could cause, or maybe we just didn't care. Here, let me start from the beginning.

I was in my room playing with my Ninja Turtles like always. My sister, Tori, was cleaning her room, trying to get it done before mom got home from work. I decided I wanted to do something else, so I went to my sister for some advise. "Tori, I'm bored..." "Yeah well, go play with your toys or something, I'm busy." she replied obviously annoyed that I had interrupted her cleaning spree. "I already played with my toys. I want to do something else." Tori sighed in irritation, "Fine, I'll play with you, but only for a few minutes. I have to finish this before mom gets home. What do you want to play?" I thought about it, but didn't really have any ideas. "I don't know, I wanted to go skating but you don't have any skates." Suddenly Tori's face lit up with that look that she gets when she has an awesome idea that will probably get us in a lot of trouble...but I was up for it. "What are you thinking?" I asked. "Lets make a soap rink!" Tori exclaimed with a gleam in her eyes. "A soap rink? How do we do that?" I asked nervously. The next thing I knew my sister was tossing me a bottle of dish soap.

"Here squeeze this onto the carpet. Make sure you spread it all over so there is a lot space for us to skate." She instructed. "Ummmm....OK....what exactly are we doing here?" "Just do it!" I obeyed half worried and half excited. I decided not to think of what would happen to us later. I was going to live in the moment and enjoy every minute of it. That way at least whatever punishment we got was well worth it. Tori came in with two pairs of socks and a bucket full of water. "Okay, that's enough soap," she said. "Just put these socks on now," she tossed them over to me right before she threw the buckets of water all over the carpeted floor. My eyes widened with excitement. Then Tori took a running start onto the carpet and slid across the room as if riding a skate board, before she hit the wall. She fell to floor in a fit of laughter. "That was awesome!" She shouted. I copied her move, loving every minute of it, even when I smacked my face into the wall. Little did we know the soap was seeping threw the floor and dripping into the downstairs apartment. We skated and slid across that floor having a blast for probably about an hour and a half before mom came home. You should have seen her face. It turned red with fury almost instantly. She had this look in her eyes like she was ready to kill us.

"What the hell is this?!" She screamed. "What were you thinking?!"  To be honest, I didn't know what we had been thinking, it just sounded like a good idea at the time.  The land lord came like an angry dog up the stairs barking threats at us. He had received a call from the neighbor downstairs about the water coming threw her apartment ceiling. She also mentioned that, "those kids are up to no good again, pounding, sliding, laughing, and god knows what else. You better throw them out or I'm leaving!" When he saw what had happened he made my mom and step dad pay for the damages and explained how they should "learn how to control their kids before they tare the whole apartment complex up". No one moved out...that time...but we were in a lot of trouble.

My sister being the oldest got in the most trouble. I tried to tell mom it was my fault because I was bored and she was just trying to find something for me to do, but that didn't work. Mom grounded me for 2 weeks and my sister for a month. She also made Tori help clean up the mess while she got lectured on how she was the oldest and should know better. "How could you possibly think this would be okay?" my mother shouted. Despite the yelling and the punishment, I still say it was worth it. It wasn't the first time we had done something crazy, and it probably wouldn't be the last.
